KtB – One Year Later

Yes, it’s hard to believe, but it’s been an entire year since the installation of Knit the Bridge on that warm and sunny weekend 365 days ago. So much has happened and yet the pace of the past year has been remarkably slow compared to the 18 months leading up to the fabulous creative collaboration […]

KtB @ Future Tenant Saturday, April 12th

Hi Folks! The cold is nearly gone and all winter long we’ve been reflecting on our experiences with Knit the Bridge. We’re super excited to be hosted by Future Tenant tomorrow night for a discussion about the project and its impact. Everyone is welcome to attend, tomorrow evening, Saturday, April 12th from 6:30-8:30pm, 819 Penn […]

Railings to Scarves

Greetings all and Happy 2014! Many, many thanks for all of your help with re-purposing railings to date.  How did we do?  We estimate that we have re-purposed approximately half of what we used to cover the bridge.  Great job all!! And now we are getting back into the groove after a bit of a […]

Where KtB is Headed in the New Year

Happy New Year! Knit the Bridge lives on in 2014 with railings, railings, railings… We are still re-purposing railings. With 900 railing covers, we’ve only got 400-600ish left to re-purpose.  Piece of cake. We’ve had a plethora of railings-turned scarves and blankets come in over the past month. Thanks to Judy Manion and countless other […]

Railing Redux – Take Two!

The railing re-purposing action continues at Knit the Bridge. Close to 100 railings-turned scarves were delivered to the Allegheny YMCA before Thanksgiving. Blanket kits were assembled and then distributed (we have a couple left).  Students at the Environmental Charter School are using the kits to make 20-30 more blankets for donation.  Animal enthusiasts have converted […]

Sprout Video Featuring Knit the Bridge

We’re so excited about this short video all about Knit the Bridge – created by Annette Sandberg (of KtB Time-lapse video fame) and sponsored by Sprout!   Check it out:

Railing Redux – We Need You!

Twice in the past month KtB folks met to sort the railing covers in Michelle’s basement. We de-tangled. We measured. We sorted. We re-bagged. There are 900 of these squeaky clean gems! Now that they’re sorted, we’re wondering what to do with all these things… That’s where you come in! We’re looking for folks to […]

The Spinning (Paper) Plates Awards. And the Winners Are…

Knit the Bridge was the result of thousands of people’s hard work, but there were a handful of folks who showed up practically every day and put in tremendous energy, making KtB a part – full time volunteer job. We thought it’d be appropriate to give out Spinning Plate Awards (named after our dear summer […]

With Panels Practically All Delivered, Railings and Tower Pieces Get a Second Life

It’s been over a month since Knit the Bridge came down.  My, how time flies!  We wanted to share with a quick update of how your lovingly hand-stitched panels and railings are enjoying life after the bridge. The panels had a quick turn around time and were laundered the Sunday and Monday after the installation […]

A Final Look at the Maps

As those of you who’ve been following the Knit the Bridge adventures know, we’ve had a goal of 100% participation from each and every Pittsburgh neighborhood and Allegheny County municipality… and, we got pretty darn close! We use the term “participation” broadly.  Part of the design of KtB included having many different ways that folks […]
